Dr Leanne Tyrie

Leanne completed her medical degree at the University of Otago before training as a radiation oncologist in Hamilton, where she held a number of leadership roles, nationally and regionally, including Director of Training. Leanne has a passion for prostate cancer and was part of the team that initially introduced high dose rate brachytherapy as a treatment option for men with prostate cancer, into New Zealand.

In 2014, utilising her skills in medical administration, she embarked on establishing New Zealand’s first public/private radiation oncology partnership from the ‘ground up’, with the aim of delivering radiation therapy to the people of the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty (which is where she was born).

Under her leadership, this has grown to a three LINAC centre, delivering contemporary treatment to all tumour sites. Leanne has been a pathology examiner and having recently obtained accreditation on behalf of KKC to embark on registrar training, she is keen to play a role in educating the next generation of radiation oncologists in New Zealand and sees this as an important legacy contribution to the profession.
